More Living Space, Built to Last

At MSDG Construction, we turn unfinished basements into the rooms your family will actually use. From cozy family rooms and home theaters to guest suites, home offices, and full basement bathrooms, we design and build the space around how you live.

Every basement is different. We start by carefully evaluating the layout, ceiling height, mechanical layout, and moisture conditions, then design a space that fits your home and budget while ensuring the construction is done the right way—so it stays comfortable and dry for decades.

Basements demand more attention than typical interior renovations. Done right, a finished basement adds substantial value and livable space; done wrong, it leads to mold, drafts, and costly fixes. We get the foundational work right.

  • Proper vapor barriers and moisture management
  • Insulation rated for below-grade applications
  • Egress windows and code-compliant exits
  • Sealed rim joists and air-tight construction
  • Permitted work with full inspections
  • Quality materials matched to basement conditions

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost to finish a basement?
Most full basement finishing projects in our area run between $40,000 and $100,000 depending on size, layout, and finishes. Adding a bathroom, custom built-ins, or higher-end materials shifts the price within that range. After we walk through the space with you, we provide a written estimate with no surprises.
How long does a basement finishing project take?
A typical finished basement takes about 1.5 to 2.5 months from start to final walk-through, depending on scope, the inclusion of a bathroom, and material lead times. We give you a project schedule before we start.
Do I need permits to finish my basement?
Yes—finishing a basement requires building, electrical, and (if you add a bathroom) plumbing permits in Massachusetts. We pull all permits and handle inspections so the work is done legally and safely. As Massachusetts Licensed Contractors (CSL #CS-119308 / HIC #211047), this is part of every project.
What about moisture and waterproofing?
Moisture is the single most important issue in any basement project. We evaluate the foundation, drainage, and humidity before we start, install proper vapor barriers and below-grade-rated insulation, and recommend any waterproofing or sump work needed. We will not finish over a known moisture problem.
Do I need an egress window?
If your finished basement includes a bedroom, Massachusetts code requires an egress window or door for safe escape. We can add or enlarge an egress window as part of the project so the space meets code and is genuinely safe.
Can you add a bathroom in the basement?
Yes. We add full or half bathrooms in basements regularly, including the rough plumbing, ventilation, and waterproof finishes required. If your basement is below the main sewer line, we can install an ejector pump system as part of the build.
